Hunter's Birth Story

Sunday June 3rd, I woke up at 7:00am with my first contraction. I wasn’t sure what it was at first so I laid there and waited to see if it came back. Around 7-8mins later came another one. So I got Rob’s watch and started timing them for about 30 minutes. They pretty much stayed 7-8 minutes apart so I went and woke my mom up to see if she would go walking with me. We left at 8:00am to go to the park, and walked for about and hour. She was timing them the whole time and they were 3 minutes apart. When we got home I rested a little bit and took a shower and stuff. We hadn’t been timing my contractions for quite awhile so I decided we should do that for an hour so when I called the dr. I would have something to tell him. From 12:45-1:45pm we timed them and they were 3 minutes apart. I called the doctor and he said to come right in. So I got my bags packed and we headed to the hospital - Santa Monica ULCA. We arrived there at 2:30pm and I had my first exam at 3:00pm. I was 2cm dilated and 100% effaced.  Dr. Hamrell also broke my water and estimated delivery to be about 10:00pm. From 3:00 until 4:20pm I laid in bed with the monitors on. I got checked and I was 3cm. Next exam was at 6:13pm and I was 3-4cm. At this time I was in a lot of pain. They finally let me out of bed and I tried walking around but it just hurt too bad. At 6:30pm I got my epidural….ahhhh heaven. My next exam was at 7:40pm, and I was still 3-4 cm so the nurse started me on pitocin to help me progress. Once I got my epi. I rested in bed while we watched TV and talked. I started feeling a lot of pressure with my contractions so the nurse checked at 10:44pm and I was 9cm. Just a few minutes later I told her I was really feeling a ton of pressure so she went ahead and checked again at 11:05pm and I was completely dilated. She said the baby’s head was still high up there so I could go ahead and give a little push with the next contraction. I pushed and she said “Stop stop, let me call the dr.” So I’m laying there using my breathing and trying to not push. She said he would be there in 5 minutes. Well 5 minutes came and went and no doctor. A couple of times she let me do a few little pushes but the head started to crown. The baby was coming fast so she had to call some resident doctors to deliver. As soon as they got there I started pushing. Five pushes later our beautiful daughter was born. It’s a GIRL!! Hunter Alexus Lim came into this world at 11:41pm weighing 6lbs. 8oz., 19in. She had a head full of dark hair and looked like her daddy.  All the nurses kept saying what a beautiful baby she was, and of course I agreed. I fed her for the first time at 12:42am. She came out making sucking noises and she did so good at nursing. At 1:45am she got her first bath and didn’t even cry one bit. In fact, the only time she ever cried was when she got weighed. By 3:00am we were settled in our post partum room, but I couldn’t sleep. I just stayed awake all night looking at her, I couldn’t believe she was finally here…My beautiful baby girl.
